Foreclosures in Alberta are heard in the Court of King's Bench. A lender cannot sell your home without going through the court, and for Brooks that means Medicine Hat Law Courts, 460 First St SE.
Title work runs separately, through Land Titles South. Land Titles has been slow since the counters closed to walk-ins in September 2025, with registrations reported taking around a hundred days, so build that into any plan with a deadline in it.
A little about Brooks
A city in the County of Newell in southern Alberta, about 186 km south-east of Calgary and 110 km north-west of Medicine Hat. Energy and agriculture drive it, alongside metal manufacturing, food processing and construction — Canada's second-largest beef-processing facility operates here. The population is about 14,924.
Brooks is known as the City of 100 Hellos, and it has the highest proportion of Black Canadians of any census subdivision in Canada. That matters practically: where a household is newer to the country, nobody has necessarily explained how an Alberta foreclosure works, or that a court process is involved at all, or that free help exists. If English is not your first language, take someone you trust to any appointment — and do not sign anything you have not had explained to you properly.

What actually happens
Less than people fear. Much of a foreclosure is documents rather than hearings, and an undefended claim moves through its stages without anyone standing up in a courtroom. That is also the risk — the process advances whether or not you engage, so engaging is how you keep a say in it.
